Shakshuka is one of those brunch dishes that feels especially good when you want something savoury, warm and substantial. It is built around eggs and a rich tomato-based sauce, making it a natural alternative to toast or pancakes.
Where to eat shakshuka in central Lisbon
Tanoa Café serves shakshuka in Bairro Alto, at Rua da Rosa 27. The café is small, independent and Black-owned, with a relaxed atmosphere close to Chiado and several of central Lisbon’s best-known viewpoints.
A savoury brunch option
Shakshuka works well for guests who want a savoury start to the day without choosing a classic Benedict. Tanoa’s brunch menu also includes Turkish Eggs, avocado toast, pancakes, toasts and hash browns.
Coffee, matcha or fresh juice
Pair it with specialty coffee, matcha or a fresh juice depending on the kind of morning you are having. The aim is a brunch that feels satisfying without becoming overly formal.
Visit Tanoa Café
Tanoa is open Wednesday to Saturday from 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM and Sunday from 8:30 AM to 2:00 PM. Reservations are available online.
